The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died Jan. 9 in the Zabul Province of Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle in Jaldak. They were assigned to the 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry Regiment, Hohenfels, Germany.
Killed were:
Maj. Brian M. Mescall, 33, of Hopkinton, Mass.,
Spc. Joseph M. Hernandez, 24, of Hammond, Ind.,
Spc. Jason R. Parsons, 24, of Lenoir, N.C.

Maj.. Mescall was my chief of staff and the two others Cpl. Hernandez and Sgt. Parsons were two very good friends of mine and they will be forever be loved and will always hold a place in the hearts of the soldiers of 1-4IN

Hey there Levya, Timothy Bennett here, I served with Cpl. Hernandez in the 3rd INF Regt. "The Old Guard" prior to him volunteering for Germany. I never knew he deployed until I heard the news. He was a great friend, a great father, and a great husband. He will be missed and is at rest in Arlington as the first junior enlisted to receieve full military honors at Arlington Cemetary. Never forgotten...
